Commercialising E-Textiles: Challenges and Approaches

The combination of sensors and electronics with textiles presents many opportunities, for example, as a platform for wearables or for monitoring the environment in a wide range of applications. However, commercialising the technology presents many challenges. E-textiles technology is inherently interdisciplinary, different applications require different technical solutions and standard relating to their manufacture and testing are still being developed. This workshop will explore these challenges and discuss the support available for commercialising the technology. Talks will include the first-hand experience of entrepreneurs, a comprehensive survey of industry professionals working in the field, typical support provided from University incubators and Innovate UK, and a venture capitalist’s perspective on investing in new technologies. The workshop will explore these challenges and barriers, and identify recommendations for further assisting the community towards commercialising the technology.

This workshop is ideal for researchers and engineers working in academia and industry who are interested in developing the technology towards practical applications and potential exploitation, and those already on the commercialisation journey.

CPE Wearable Electronics Workshop: From Fundamentals to Next-Generation Textiles and Fibres

Following the Commercialising E-Textiles workshop, The Centre for Processable Electronics (CPE) will be hosting a half day workshop on Fundamentals to Next-Generation Textiles and Fibres.

The CPE Wearable Electronics Workshop: From Fundamentals to Next-Generation Textiles and Fibres will cover the full spectrum of e-textiles research from basic concepts to emerging trends for functional textiles and fibres. This includes novel materials and manufacturing processes for the development of electronic fibres and integration into e-textiles, as well as emerging research trends and the development of advanced electronic textiles for applications as self-powered systems, sensing technologies, and bioengineering.

🗓️ Friday 27th March 2026 10.00-13.00, Imperial College, London
